Music Festivals: Four Outfit Ideas

Hey Everyone!! It has been a little over a month since I have updated my blog, which is due to the fact that I have been so busy with playing basketball in Western Australia. I'm finally starting to attain more of a social life here and making friends on and off the court. This weekend, I will be going to SUPAFEST, the largest urban music festival in Australia. With that being said, I thought I would share some outfit ideas for going to a music festival or any festival for that matter. When going to a festival there are a three main things you should keep in mind:

*Weather
*Comfort
*Style/Environment

I remember attending my first huge music festival in San Francisco, called Outside Lands. The event started around 10am and ended around 10pm. My first mistake was not considering the significant weather change and focusing just on style/environment. I put so much effort into my indie/grunge look that I forgot to bring a warm jumper (sweater) for the evening performances. Let's just say that I was FREEZING by the time Kings of Leon started performing around 9pm. I will never forget how miserable I was.

Let's not forget comfort, ladies and gentlemen. I'm sure everyone wants to look their best because other than enjoying the amazing music and environment, we all wouldn't mind attracting the opposite sex (or the same sex in some situations). However, at most festivals, there is no seating and most people, if not all, end up sitting on the grass. So it is vital that you try to incorporate comfort when choosing an outfit to wear. If you know that sitting down on grass would be nearly impossible in your outfit selection, then you should probably opt for something else. It's all about what you feel comfortable in.

Figuring out what style to incorporate into your outfit is pretty simple because it really should be your own personal style rather than what you believe would be most appealing to other people. I personally believe that going to a festival is the best time to showcase your personality through your style. So don't be afraid to be unique and even push the envelope a little.

I'm going to share four outfits that I have considered for this weekend and I'll let you guess which one I've decided to choose. Enjoy!

Outfit of the day: Shopping in Western Australia

Hey Everyone!! So I recently was telling my sister about some of the struggles with living abroad and trying to adjust to being so far away from home and based on what she learned in international business in college, I'm in my "starting stage". So basically, I'm still trying to adjust, which is the reason for the lack of blog posts. I finally found some free time today to go shopping with my teammate, Rachele, and even found a cool consignment shop near our home (I plan to create vlog about that, so stay tuned). It has been pretty hot lately and I can honestly see my skin getting a little darker (which I love!!). Today was no different, another extremely hot day and I didn't see any point in covering up. I decided to try a little color blocking and paired a high waisted orange skirt with a yellow tube top that I purchased at a drag queen shop in San Francisco :) I definitely attracted attention with those bright colors (lots of stares and even a few guys honking..haha), so if you are the shy type, you may want to stray away from the bright, loud colors and opt for simpler tones.

Outfit of the Night in LA

Hey Everyone! So this post is super late because I have been so busy lately. As most of you may know, I finally made the big move to Western Australia and I will be playing semi-professional basketball for the Slammers. I'm super excited about this amazing opportunity to be able to play overseas, but I definitely plan to continue to share all of my fashion experiences and interests with you all. On my last weekend in my hometown, Los Angeles, I decided to quickly take a few pictures and share my outfit of the night. It was pretty warm, so I wore a mustard colored short sleeve dress from XXI and paired it with black booties. I would consider my style to be pretty simple so I didn't wear many accessories, just three basic rings. (PS - Disregard the facial expressions, I definitely look too serious :/ )

Vernon Davis (SF 49er) and Antone Barnes's Business Venture: Modern Class Design

Hi Everyone!

Recently, I became intrigued by a press release about a new business venture by Vernon Davis and Antone Barnes. The duo decided to start an interior design company called Modern Class Design. It’s not common that you hear about a NFL player's aspirations outside of football, so I definitely was interested in delving into how and why this business plan was created. Luckily, I was able to land an interview with Antone Barnes, the co-owner and founder, of Modern Class Design, and of course, I wanted to share this amazing interview with you all:

Me: How did the business plan for your interior design company first start?
Antone: The business plan for MCD came about from a personal experience Vernon had with a designer on his homes where he was drastically overcharged and was not totally satisfied. He has also heard stories from other players with the same situation being overcharged and not being satisfied with the work.

Me: What differentiates Modern Class Design from other interior design companies?
Antone: Well we pride ourselves on having totally different styles and concepts with our designs. With this mind set, we also look to accomplish this at a respectable price. We also make a lot of our clients art collectors and help build their wealth with these concepts.

Me: What is most rewarding about your interior design business?
Antone: The most rewarding aspect about our design company is the satisfaction we give our clients when we are done. We also enjoy the satisfaction of our clients being happy that we do not go over their budgets.

Me: What were/are some of your biggest challenges with starting the business and how did you overcome them?
Antone: Well in the beginning do to the fact I am an ex-record executive and Vernon being an All Pro tight end people really didn't take us serious until they see our work. Once they see our work they’re impressed.

Me: How would you describe your companies’ design style?
Antone: Very Very contemporary with a flair. We are not cookie cut at all like a lot of design companies.

Me: What influences/inspires your work?
Antone: Our influences are inspired by Vernon’s art talents and Antone's world travels. These really inspire a lot of our cultured influenced designs.

Me: Who is your niche market for Modern Class Design?
Antone: Anyone who appreciates design with flair!!!!!!!

Modern Class Design also has an AMAZING list of clientele that they have worked with in the past, this includes:

*Sean Smith – Miami Dolphins
*Aldon Smith – San Francisco 49ers
*Vonte Davis – Miami Dolphins
*Reshad Jones – Miami Dolphins
*Anthony Davis – San Francisoc 49ers

After my interview with Antone Barnes and seeing their work, I definitely would love to work with MCD and design my home (once that time comes). I love the concept of a contemporary style with a flair and it is always nice to hear about a company that addresses helping consumers during this difficult economy.
